JF : Talking about monsters, many survival/horror games pits the main character against huge or challenging bosses. Some of them attack in packs, while others attack individually. ZM : There are several types of monsters, or Imps, in the game: Rabbit Imps, Goat Imps, et cetera. JF : We know Jennifer will have to fight monsters, but never saw any yet. ZM : Minobes score does exactly what it should, by maintaining an undercurrent of tension and suspense even when theres not a great deal happening on-screen.
How will it continuously scare the player? Sounds play an important role in the game, as do the music. JF : Rule of Rose seems more of a psychological survival/horror game than a gore one, especially with the musical score composed by Yutaka Minobe. Its just Jennifer and Brown defending themselves against the monsters that attack her as she wanders the airship where the Aristocracy has taken her. ZM : You wont see any members of the Aristocracy engaging in violent conduct. Does that mean we will see infantile violence? It is also commonly associated with violence. One CG cutscene hinted that the red color is a powerful symbol for the kids in this game. JF : The "Aristocracy of the Red Crayon" is mysterious. It makes the plot developments and plot twists that much more impactful. ZM : Well, to tell you that would be to spoil the storyline, and Rule of Rose is a game you want to play while knowing as little about the storyline as possible. The minute later, she's kidnapped by demented residents of Rose Garden. JF : Jennifer discovers some kids that call themselves as the "Aristocracy of the Red Crayon" when she arrives at the Rose Garden Orphanage. He can also directly attack enemies, but if hes injured, he wont be able to find items until Jennifer patches him up with a restorative item. From that point on, she can give him several commands: find a particular item, come, stay, and bark at a nearby enemy (which usually stuns that enemy for a few moments). Zach Meston (PR Manager, Atlus USA) : Jennifer finds Brown fairly early in the game. Can you tell us more about the role of the dog in the game, especially puzzles-wise? She's then taken to the Rose Garden Orphanage with her puppy, name Brown. Jeux-Force : Rule of Rose follows the story of Jennifer, who just lost her parents in an airship crash.
